Quick answers

The questions traders ask most before going live. Tap one.

Why don’t demo profits carry over to live?

On demo there is no real money at stake, so fear and greed stay quiet. Live, the same setup can feel very different: people close winners too early, hold losers too long, or trade bigger to win back a loss.

Live prices can also move fast around news, so the price you get may differ from the one you saw. Start with a smaller size than on demo and keep the same rules.

What actually moves the gold price?
  • Interest rates: gold pays no interest, so higher rate expectations have tended to weigh on it.
  • The US dollar: gold is priced in dollars, so a stronger dollar has tended to pull it lower.
  • Inflation data: it shapes rate expectations and demand for a store of value.
  • Uncertainty: tense world events can lift safe-haven demand.

Central bank buying adds demand in the background. These are tendencies, not rules, and they often pull at the same time.

Stop loss, take profit and risk to reward

Decide your exit before you enter.

Example, for illustration only: you plan to buy gold, with a stop loss USD 5 below your entry and a take profit USD 10 above it. You are risking 1 to aim for 2, a 1:2 risk to reward.

It does not make a trade win. It helps you plan so that one loss does not undo several gains.

How big should my first live trade be?

Work it out from the loss you can accept, not the profit you hope for. A common rule of thumb is to risk only a small, fixed share of your account on any one trade.

With leverage, a small price move can change your balance a lot, so check the size before you click.

How do I handle nerves on my first live trades?

Expect them. Write your plan down before you trade: why you are entering, where your stop loss is, where you will take profit.

Judge yourself on following the plan, not on one result. Taking a break after a loss is a skill, not a weakness.
